Im-/Export on Main Form (not Keys)
Of course, you need to import and export texts and files. Here is how:
Main Form:
Plain Text Window (upper main window):
- Copy-Paste: with Mouse RightClick and key combinations (Ctrl+C, Ctrl +V)
- Drag-Drop: Go to field, hold mouse down and drag the content into another program that has drag-drop capabilities (e.g., Word does, Notepad does not.) Or import by doing the same in the other direction. Note: you can only put text into the window, when the whole message is in Edit-Mode. You cannot import into a decrypted message.
Encrypted text window (lower main window):
Note: Sending encrypted text in an e-mail (o any other file) that is HTML formatted (sometimes called Rich Text) you will most likely destroy the integrity of the message and the recipient will not be able to decrypt and read it. Therefore the default way of exporting encrypted text is to put it into a file of pure unformatted text.
You should only export and send encrypted messages as open text (i.e., not in a file) when you are 100% sure the formatting of the document that you copy it into does not corrupt your text.
Import: Same as the plain text window.
Export:
- Copy as File: RightClick: "Copy as file". Copy file wherever you want. Then you can attach it to you e-mail.
- Drag-Drop as File: Drag your mouse out of the grey area in the window called "Drag as File from here." Drag file, e.g, into e-mail to attach.
- To enable Copy/Drag as text, check the checkbox below the window. Then it works as the plain window.
Attachments/Files (smaller windows on the right):
- Drag-Drop. Exporting by dragging copies the file, that is, the original file stays where it was. Importing by dragging makes a copy of the file in InstantCrypt's User Files directory; the original file stays. You can change this behavior by pressing the Shift key during drag-drop: this will move the file into the program's User Files, i.e., the file will disappear from its previous location. If you press the Shift and Control keys at the same time, InstantCrypt will create a shortcut, i.e., it will leave the file where it is and use this file for encryption/decryption.
- Copy-Paste for Import/Export (key combination or RightClick), or with the Add button, and with RightClick | Export.
- Remove: Will remove the file from the encryption/decryption message, but not delete the file from its place on the disk. Files are not deleted from the programs User Files when you remove them from a message. If you want to delete them there, you have to go into the directory and do it there.
- To find out the file location, hover you mouse to the left of the file name. (The program does not notice if files are removed from the location after the encryption/decryption process.)
- Import: You can drop encryption/decryption files (and key files) on the "Landing Pad" at the bottom of the program; the program usually knows where to put them.
- Files named Winmail.dat, , Att*.dat, PGP.asc: When you think these files contain encrypted data, please import them into the file Landing Pad at the bottom. InstantCrypt will decode them (if it can).
