Create a Revocation Certificate

A revocation certificate of a key is sent to others to notify them that you cannot or do not want to use this key any more. Reasons: Somebody "stole" and discovered the passphrase of your key so that using the key is not safe any more; or you lost the key; or you made a new one that you prefer; or you have any other reason. Others import this revocation certificate into their keyring, as a warning not to use it any more.

It is a good idea to make a revocation certificate when you create the key and store it some place.  For when you lost your key, you cannot make a revocation certificate anymore. (This program does that automatically.)

Steps:

  1. Main Menu | Key Management | More With Own Key(s)... | Create Revocation Cert
  2. If you have more than one own key, the program asks you which one you want to work on.
  3. A Screen opens:
    1. The Browse button lets you change the directory and name of file that will contain the certificate.
    2. On the left, you can check the reason for the revocation. You can also give a verbal description.
    3. Click OK to make the certifiacte and save it in the chosen file.
    4. Passphrase window: Enter the passphrase of the key.
    5. Success message: Click OK.

Done.
