Delete Your Own Key
This means: delete your own key from your key files (your key ring). Once deleted, you can not recover it unless you have a copy somewhere else.
This is not a good idea if you have sent this key out already, as you won't be able to read messages encrypted with this key. But you can discard a key you had for internal use; however, you will not be able to decrypt anything in the future that has been encrypted with this key already.
Steps:
- Main Menu | Key Management | More With Own Key(s)... | Delete Own Key
- If you have more than one own key, the program asks you which one you want to work on.
- Two warning screens will appear that warn you of mistakenly deleting a key. Click OK on both.
- Next: A screen asks you if you want to delete only the secret or secret and public parts of your key. (Do, at this point, not ask what these things are.)
- If you want to really delete the key, click on Secret And Public Key.
- If you have a copy of your key some place else and just need to keep the public key here, click on the first option.
- Click OK.
- Successful Delete message: Click OK.
- Done.
