Import Key From File or Open Text


If you received another persons key, e.g. by e-mail, and saved it on your computer, your use of this option to import this new key into your key ring. Mostly the key will come in a text file ("as file"). Sometimes you may get a key as a text ("as open text") of an e-mail or you copied it from a web page.


Steps:


Main Menu | Key Management | Import Key.


A series of screens opens.

  1. First Screen: Pick if key came in a file (most likely) or as open text. Click Next
  2. Screen: Import a Key:
    1. If key came in a file
      1. Load file
        1. Possibility 1: drag-drop or copy-paste file onto Landing Pad
        2. Possibility 2: Load File conventionally
      2. Click on Import Key File.
      3. Message about successful import: Click OK.
      4. New screen automatically opens.
    2. If key came in open text:
      1. Paste the open text into the big window
      2. Click Import key
      3. Message about successful import: Click OK.
      4. New screen automatically opens.
  3. Screen: Do you want to sign the imported key?
    1. Make sure you are confident that the key comes from its apparent owner. If not, Click on skip.
    2. Click on Sign Key.
      1. Confirm that you want to sign.
      2. If you have more than one key yourself, you will be asked which to use for signing. Select, click OK.
      3. Passphrase window: Enter the passphrase of your signing key.
      4. Success message: Click OK.
  4. Screen: Do you want to send your own key back?
    1. The Finish Screen opens.
  5. Screen: Finish. Click OK.
