Import Key From File or Open Text
If you received another persons key, e.g. by e-mail, and saved it on your computer, your use of this option to import this new key into your key ring. Mostly the key will come in a text file ("as file"). Sometimes you may get a key as a text ("as open text") of an e-mail or you copied it from a web page.
Steps:
Main Menu | Key Management | Import Key.
A series of screens opens.
- First Screen: Pick if key came in a file (most likely) or as open text. Click Next
- Screen: Import a Key:
- If key came in a file
- Load file
- Possibility 1: drag-drop or copy-paste file onto Landing Pad
- Possibility 2: Load File conventionally
- Click on Import Key File.
- Message about successful import: Click OK.
- New screen automatically opens.
- If key came in open text:
- Paste the open text into the big window
- Click Import key
- Message about successful import: Click OK.
- New screen automatically opens.
- Screen: Do you want to sign the imported key?
- Make sure you are confident that the key comes from its apparent owner. If not, Click on skip.
- Click on Sign Key.
- Confirm that you want to sign.
- If you have more than one key yourself, you will be asked which to use for signing. Select, click OK.
- Passphrase window: Enter the passphrase of your signing key.
- Success message: Click OK.
- Screen: Do you want to send your own key back?
- The Finish Screen opens.
- Screen: Finish. Click OK.
